Geografia

İpsala è situata sulla sponda sinistra del fiume mwgwMeriç, che segna il mwhaconfine tra la Grecia e la Turchia. Fa parte della regione storica della mwhqTracia orientale ed è situata a 116mwhg km a sud del capoluogo provinciale mwhwEdirne ed a 255mwia km ad est di mwiqIstanbul.

Storia

Si tratta dell'antica città mwjatracia di mwjqCypsella (mwjgΚυψέλη in mwjwgreco antico), attraverso la quale mwkaLucio Cornelio Silla marciò per incontrarsi con mwkqMitridate VI del mwkgPonto al termine della mwkwprima guerra mitridatica nell'mwla85 a.C..cite-ref-appianomitridatiche56-2-0[2] Dopo la conquista romana la città fu inclusa dentro i confini della provincia del mwmqRodope.
